NCC-5852-A, U.S.S. MANTICORE
Secure Information On The Ship

Ship: U.S.S. Manticore {Star Trek Simulation Forum}
Fleet Registry Number: NCC-5852-A

The ship is a basic Nebula Class vessel with the following modifications.
Hull
The standard hull is covered with three extra layers of material. The innermost layer is
composed of interlaced tungsten filaments to increase structural integrity and work as an
augmentation to the deflector systems. The middle layer is composed of a tritanium/duranium
alloy and is hooked into the enhanced dorsal sensor array. The outermost layer is an
experimental sensor-reflective polycarbonite that is able to bend or refract 85% of visible light.
Deployable external armor, a technology brought back from the future by the USS Voyager, is being field-tested
on the Manticore. This system replicates and deploys overlapping durasteel plating that covers the entire
exterior of the ship when engaged. The replication system is also able to replace missing or damaged plates
instantly if there are fewer than 15% in need of replacement at any one time. Once the armor is no longer
needed, it can be jettisoned as waste or can be gathered with the tractor beam system as a "blind" or an
inert mass for any other purpose.
Warp Engines
The Manticore has been equipped with a complete second warp drive (including intermix
chamber and EPS conduit system) for redundancy in case of equipment failure. At the same
time, the main and secondary drives are synchronized, using the latest intermix and warp
field processes from the Daystrom Institute. This allows them to run simultaneously, giving
extra power for weaponry and speed requirements. To facilitate this, much of the normal
crew quarters of the standard Nebula Class have been removed, limiting the number of crew.
Armaments
In addition to the standard Nebula Class arsenal, the Manticore also stocks Quantum torpedoes
and metaphasic mines designed for defeating adaptive shielding. The ship has also been
outfitted with highly powerful, yet unstable, explosive devices known by the nickname,
"planet killers." The newest addition to the ship's ordnance are the Interphasic Flechette
torpedos - each of these act as 50-150 small individual interphasic torpedos fired in a tight
spread.
3-D Displays
These are on Bridge stations (the ones in the back), the conference rooms,
the main meeting hall and Admiral's ready room.
Holowalls
One wall of each of the living quarters is equipped with a Holowall system.
Runabouts
There are additional small craft besides the standard 4 runabouts. The Admiral's Yacht
has been modified for scientific and exploratory applications (enhanced sensors and
extended life support). The Manticore also has two short range fighter-class vessels,
the Griffin and the Wyvern.
These fighters can deliver a scaled-down quantity, but full spread, of the ordnance
available on the Manticore. These fighters are impulse powered only, but have enhanced
handling and maneuverability. In addition, the Manticore recently developed a special
Engineering and Science runabout, the Cerberus, a
vessel that can have distinct modular units replaced to expand it's utility. Finally,
Manticore is also home to the Chimera, a Landing Assault Craft.

Special Missions (Spacefleet Black Ops Exploratory Vessel)
The ship has a mixed mission of exploration of the truly bizarre and unexplainable
with the mandate to destroy anything considered a threat to our way of life. It is listed
on the "books" at the fleet as a space tug/troubleshooter. It can be dispatched quickly
and can patch up problems and help get a troubled vessel back to a starbase for long-term
repairs. However, that is just the cover for its true mission. It can be easily re-configured,
with its customized dorsal modules, and sent to investigate issues and matters that the fleet
doesn't want to publicly acknowledge (even among the other ship captains)... not until they're
explained further.
The missions are not coming from Fleet HQ or Intelligence, but directly from the Federation
General Assembly via the Consul General. There are very few people in the Fleet or the
government at large that are aware of Manticore's true mission at any one time. This helps
protect the governing bodies from embarrassing fallout from failed missions, but it also leads
to a variety of miscommunications and problems with its "stated" missions.
