Dream Part 1

Subject: Dream Part 1

Date: Sat, Sep 14, 1996 4:15 PM

From: LieutJGDay

Ensign Joshua Day looked out of the shuttlebay window as the USS Ranger NCC-1492-A was entering a bueautiful nebula. The stunning ship looked even more astounding as it reflected the wispy purple, red, and blue clouds across its hull.

"Ensign Day requesting clearance to dock," Josh said, holding the comm button.

He received an immediate response from Captain DiGriz. "Denied, Ensign! Hold your position! We don't want any unnecessary lives at stake here. Wait till we come out of the nebula. Then you may board."

"Aye, sir." Josh was slightly shocked at the abrupt reply. However, he soon understood why the captain had told him to stay back. The saying "the most beautiful things are usually the most deadly" must have held true for this nebula. Though it was an awesome sight, it must have been very dangerous.

Josh began to see lightning errupting among the distant clouds, brightening the walls of the gaseous form at every bolt. The Ranger began to move towards the lightning, and as she did the clouds seemed to envelop her, making only a silhouette visible in the purple fog.

As the ship moved closer the lightning became more frequent. Josh started to get nervous. He had just been assigned to the Ranger and before he even got a chance to board, it appeared she was already in trouble. "The action starts very quick here," Josh thought aloud.

Josh tapped a few controls on the shuttle's control panel, activating the sensors. He had lost sight of the ship now and wanted to keep track of her. The screen lit up to show the nebula and a small dot indicating the Ranger. Directly ahead of the ship there were thousands of tiny dots which were crowded in groups like bouquets of flowers. He also noticed a few of the clusters around his shuttlecraft.

Suddenly he noticed an energy buildup forming to the right of the Ranger. He immediately tapped his communicator. "Josh to Ranger." There was a crackling sound but no response. "Josh to Ranger, come in!" Still nothing. "Get out of there now! There's an energy buildup under your hull!"

Obviously the clouds were cutting off his transmission. His heart raced. "They better see it too!," Josh said to himself.

Just then he saw the huge glowing deflector of the Ranger begin to emerge from the nebula, along with the huge ship. She was beaten badly, with burns streaking the saucer and her belly.

But the unthinkable happened just as he thought she had escaped danger. A bolt of lightning dashed out of the cloud to her port, slicing through the deflector and turning on all the windows on board, making them glow a hot white which was reflected as a thousand spotlight points on the clouds.

It seemed as though the moment stood forever, though it only lasted a couple seconds. An explosion errupted from the Ranger's hull which soon took the whole ship into its firey grasp. Debris flew and the giant shockwave shook the shuttle as if it were a toy in the hands of an excited baby.

"Engines full reverse!" Josh screamed at the computer. That did nothing. He saw the firey mass coming towards the shuttle as it shook out of control. Debris crashed against his hull, penetrating his weak deflector. Sparks flew and smoke filled the cabin. He found himself choking on the bitter electrified ashes and squinted as the burning smoke passed his eyes. The fireball had him and the pressure broke the shuttle like a piece oif flint.........
