'What a day' is all I can say right now. In the last few hours, I've been through more excitement than I've had in the past 2 years. It all started with the shuttle mission that I stupidly volunteered to pilot to the surface of Khittomer. As I did routine maintenance on the shuttle we brought down, 2 officers ran back to our 'camp', saying that they saw smoke. That began the whole whirlwind of excitement. Commander Moore wanted to go see this smoke for himself, so I flew the shuttle over the site. It wasn't pretty when we landed. A large pyre of dead Klingons is what we found, and just as we were about to start figuring out what had happened, 6 Klingons (Fully Alive i might add) beamed down at our position. All 6 of us had time to duck behind rocks or in caves. That was the good news. Unfortunatly, only Security Chief Gamble and myself had phase pistols. We 'invited' and 'took care' of our guests in proper manner, and it wasn't long before we were hightailing it out of there in the shuttle pod. But of course, it's never that easy. Within minutes we had a Klingon Bird of Prey (?) firing torpedos down at us from orbit. It took some doing to get those suckers off our backs, including some risky manuvers and brilliant thinking by Ens. Grey from Science.

Actually, 'What a day' is an understatement. We aren't even back at Challenger yet, and with Commander Moore out like a rock with a concussion, it's bound to become an even more eventful day.
