Why!?!?

As Merina sat in the escape pod, all she could think was: “How could this have happend?” One minute she was doing fine, despite the fact being jolted around and thrown to floor in sickbay, then the next minute being told to evacuate the ship. All she wondered was how many people died on the ship. Why did they have to go on this mission?
