  1. Mission Summary – Sky Harbor Aegis – 21 August, 2009

    SrLtn Scott Coleridge and Lt(jg) Caelan Fletcher have been awarded the Starfleet Merit Award for their joint log, Batteries Not Included; Some Assembly Required.

    SuCmdr Tylus Petrinius Jorahl has been awarded the Starfleet Starburst for his exceptional work in graphics and design for Sky Harbor Aegis, the Aegis Shipyard, and associated vessels.

    Summary:

    An unidentified vessel entered Aegis space and disgorged 90 fighters that approached in attack position. The fighters turned out to be false targets that covered an attack from vessels approaching under cloak.

    Aegis is presently under attack from unknown entities in a strangely configured ship that has no record in our database.

    • 37 enemy fighters have been destroyed;
    • 28 Aegis defense platforms are either damaged beyond use or destroyed;
    • Aegis fighters have engaged the enemy carrier, targeting weapons and engines
    • The enemy carrier forward shields failed about 2 seconds before their main weapon fired, the impacts of Aegis' defense grid taking their toll;
    • The enemy carrier's shot misfired but impacted the primary pylon shields; power on Aegis flickered and shields fail to register.

    Time between games is 2 minutes. In that time:

    • "Darkness" has fallen but is short lived;
    • The station still exists;
    • There are no major holes;
    • There are some injuries;
    • Tactical is still firing torpedoes.

  2. Mission Summary – Sky Harbor Aegis – 14 August 2009

    Aegis has just entered its third month in the asteroid field and the crew was settling into a routine when a sensor marker at the edge of the asteroid field detected a ship, configuration and identity unknown, entering the asteroid field at sublight speeds.

    As the vessel approached, sensors showed it comparable in size to a D'deridex-class warbird but had the general configuration of a rectangular solid. Internal scans showed high energy signatures and 90 fighters have emerged, destination unknown.

    At sim pause the station had just gone to red alert.

    Time between games is 60 seconds.

  3. Mission Summary – Sky Harbor Aegis – 7 August 2009

    Engineer Coleridge was tweaking a telemetry program for the defense grid while Fletcher wavered between chartreuse and apricot for the shipyard wiring system.

    Dr. Pavilion kept sick bay running smoothly in the absence of Dr. Lepage.

    On TKR 117, Administrator McDowell and Science Chief Feretti explored the archaeological site via shuttle. They informed Aegis of an anaerobic bacteria in the soil with qualities that may be beneficial to medicine. Dr. Belar was dispatched to the colony to investigate.

    Cdr Chirakis consulted Science Officer LeMorte about the strange writing he found on the walls of the archaeological site.

    Security Chief Dabi recruited Engineer Coleridge for fighter training.

    Time between games is one week.

  4. Simple Diplomacy

    A Joint Log by Dr. McDowell, LtCdr Feretti, and Cdr Chirakis

    Cdr Chirakis dropped her Peregrine fighter from warp well outside the gravity well of TKR-117. From the void emerged a small class M planet, not as spectacular as many she had seen, and certainly not worth fighting over. Standard flora to fauna ratios showed on her scanners, along with some areas of desert, plain, and tundra. A shift in calibration showed standard tectonic activity that spoke of a molten core with no significant deposits of precious commodities such as would draw the attention of a passerby. All scans corroborated the scans taken by the science team's first and second planetary surveys.

    Yet there was something beyond the planet's recently found archaeological site that drew those whom Ambassador Drankum called "frontier hugging hippies" to places such as this. Having lived on the edge of civilization for so long, Kirel Chirakis wondered at their motivation, at why they would choose to colonize such a nondescript area of the galaxy, and if there was anything beyond their alleged rich archaeological find that might keep them there.

    She was also concerned with the planet's security and the likelihood that someone might stumble upon it, but from this distance there didn't seem to be much that would draw a passerby. To the north of the colony lay an ancient mountain chain that reached beyond the terminus to the far side. To the south ran a river whose tributaries seemed to water most of the southern plain. It appeared to be an ordinary planet and nothing more.

    A few hours later she was wandering through the courtyard, accompanied by Aegis' Chief Science Officer, LtCmdr Feretti, and escorted by Dr. McDowell.

    The scientist she is, Leilani couldn't help but be impressed by the tour and was looking forward to visiting the ruins before the dig took place. Though progress was good in coordinating where to dig and when to start, the opportunity to view the site now would definitely help her with her plans. Leilani quietly followed Commander Chirakis and Dr. McDowell as the latter escorted them through the courtyard. She activated her tricorder, keen to get as much information about them as possible.

    Hannah was eager to show Chirakis and Leilani the colony. She was proud of how hard the colonists had worked to set it up and get it running. Hannah also wanted to show Chirakis and Leilani that she wasn't some psycho scientist; she was just someone who had worked very hard to get where she was. She wanted them to know Hannah.

    Upon exiting the science building, Kirel stepped into a courtyard that appeared to be an area of relaxation for the colonists. Several wrought iron tables surrounded a small water fountain in the middle. Newly planted beds surrounded areas of grass, and a few trees rustled in the afternoon breeze.

    The mountains to the north appeared to shelter the valley floor from the fiercest storms and, since Kirel's mind seldom wandered far from defense, she noted they might be used for cover during an attack. They seemed to be fairly geologically stable; at least there were no overt signs of recent eruption. The river to the south meandered through the valley. It, too, had been there a long time, and the extent of the flood plain seemed a safe distance from the colony and the archaeological site.

    "You certainly have made progress in the last few months, Dr. McDowell," said Kirel, her eyes continuing to wander over the outlay of the station. "Your laboratory and all your working spaces are well designed. Your living spaces certainly appear comfortable – more than adequate, I would say. I understand you've been planning this colony for several years, and your careful planning is evident." It never hurt to be complimentary, and Kirel was sincere. But she did have more pressing things on her mind.

    "Tell me, though -- have you shelters for emergencies, plans for natural disasters or... " here she paused to angle her eyes skyward and wave her hand in the direction of space, "...otherwise?"

    "Not yet but we do have plans to add them in the coming months. I'll be happy to show you the plans." Hannah replied.

    The tour of the colony took about an hour. Hannah showed them everything: the greenhouse where they grew some of their food, the storage area, the medical facilities, living quarters, communications, etc. As she showed them around, she gave them a brief on the future plans for the colony, how eventually a city would be built to support a community and possibly a station to support ships. She tried not to brag about her colony but she couldn't help it. She ended the tour of the colony back at the science building. "So that's it for the colony. We can go see the dig site if you like or have supper. I believe TooRam is making his famous stew tonite."

    The mention of food brought to Kirel the sudden recognition of a smell drifting on the breeze. "Famous stew?" she echoed, glancing at Leilani. "Now I see why your science team is so eager to stay here, Dr. Feretti," she said with feigned jealousy, then turned back to Hannah. "Supper it is, then the site. As eager as I am to see the subject of so much speculation, I don't believe I could pass up a home cooked meal, as you Terrans call it."

    "Of course." Hannah smiled and nodded and then led them both to the dining area where most everyone had gathered. She introduced everyone and then indicated where to get the plates and utensils and then the food. Hannah then led them to a table and sat down.

    Leilani smiled her thanks as she was led inside the colony. Stew sounded alright, and she was getting somewhat hungry after spending those few hours stuck in the lab. While she was looking forward to touring the archeological site, she hadn't really had a chance to tour the colony either and was eager to see it as well. As they entered the dining area she could smell the stew and other foods that were currently being prepared. Leilani nodded politely and returned any introductions directed towards her. "The people here are quite friendly" Leilani said to Dr. McDowell, "and going by what I'm smelling, dinner should be good too." She smiled as she took a seat by the doctor and Commander Chirakis.

    Hannah nodded and grinned. Perhaps this joint venture with Aegis wouldn't be so bad after all.

  5. BRIEF:

    The away team from USS Ticonderoga (Defiant Class) has been looking for dilithium deposits 200m below the surface of a planetoid.

    The good news: they have found the dilithium, plenty of water, and food on an otherwise barren planetoid.

    The bad news: there is an inquisitive tentacled water creature in the underground lake.

    The food they found is in the form of crunchy crawly slimy insects.

    A phaser blast has caved in their only apparent exit.

    Their captain was bitten by one of the many insects inhabiting the cave and she is unconscious.

    There is no communication with the surface or the ship.

    Will the creature be happy after being phasered?

    Will the crew keep their wits about them and survive?

  7. The Return

    A Joint Log by SrLtn LeMorte and Cdr Chirakis

    Cdr Chirakis sat at her desk reviewing the report from TKR-117, when her attention was drawn to a notation that SrLtn LeMorte had been requested to leave. Kirel had, therefore, summoned him to her office. Whatever the situation, it was not seemly for a Starfleet officer to be ousted from a mission. She would talk with LeMorte then consult with Ambassador Drankum and possibly Administrator McDowell, hoping nothing beyond his removal from the site needed to be done.

    Gathering his padd and copy of his report to both Cdr. Feretti and the Command staff, Le Morte chimed the XO's door, patiently waiting for admittance.

    "Come," she said without looking up from her work.

    Entering Chirakis' office he could not help but look around, briefly taking in the surroundings. This was actually the very first time he had been there. Usually any meetings were held in the main conference room.

    Kirel glanced up, giving a cursory nod and a wave of her hand. "Mr. LeMorte. Sit. We have something to discuss." Her manner was curt, but more from tedious routine than anything else.

    Moving from a position of attention, Le Morte said, "Good day Commander," and pulled up the proffered chair. "I suspect the discussion centers around recent events that transpired on TKR-117," he said, quietly placing the prepared reports on his lap.

    After signing yet another report and placing it on the growing pile to her left, she leaned back to eye him for a minute, the aging chair giving a groan as she did so, almost mirroring her present state of mind. He is prepared. Good.

    "TKR-117," she began slowly, calculating every word, every movement - no small task given the species involved. "I received a report from Administrator McDowell with a notation that you have been..." she glanced at the padd, "...dismissed from the colony. Tell me, Lieutenant - exactly what happened that a Starfleet Officer would be dismissed from a mission, especially a mission of such delicacy."

    With an expressionless visage, he began, "Sir with all due respect, first I would like to correct the good Doctor's report. I was not dismissed from the site as she has so eloquently stated. I had discussed with Commander Feretti and did suggest that perhaps due to an obvious disdain for me, and apparently a personality conflict, I perhaps should be replaced with another science officer to reduce or at least maintain a smoother less heated atmosphere for those involved in the supposed joint project.

    "Furthermore, Commander I have included my observations during my tenure planet side and the Doctors observed and noted behavior as it pertains to any fleet or station personnel involved. Her overall attitude has been both caustic and abusive towards others not of her chosen team, and that does raise certain concerns as it should from any good officer worth their weight."

    It took a while for the sum of his words to sink in. That he would question a superior, whether a superior officer or a head of state such as Dr. McDowell, was nearly beyond Kirel's scope of understanding. The warrior's code spoke of duty, honor, respect, and total obedience – to death if necessary. Yet, her face did not betray her thoughts as she asked quietly, "And what do you intend we do about this situation, Mr. LeMorte," she said evenly.

    LeMorte considered the Commanders words carefully. "What do I intend to do? Indeed Commander it is not what I intend to do, it is what I have done. I have completed a comprehensive detailed report for my superiors including my opinion and suspicions of the Doctor's ulterior motives in this venture. I do not know exactly what she is hiding from us, however it is obvious to me at any rate she has obtained just what she was working towards: getting me off planet. I suspect while in the performance of my duty I must have been getting close to possibly uncovering something she has ferociously sought to protect and hide from any discovery, sir."

    As he spoke Kirel's face remained passive until he voiced his suspicions and then directly accused. Had he been an operative she would have taken his report under advisement. Operatives were allowed to voice suspicions; it was part of their job. But LeMorte was a Starfleet science officer, an investigator, bound by gathering facts, weighing options, and suggesting methods within a strict chain of command. It suddenly occurred to Kirel that Starfleet may be in dire straits and the station itself in even more dangerous waters should this type of – dare she say – mutinous discussion continue. There was enough danger in this area of space without driving a wedge between the colony and the station.

    She leaned forward, her hand out for his reports, her eyes meeting his unflinchingly. When he had passed them to her she placed them to the side and leaned her arms on the desk. Her hands folded in front of her, she began, "Let me tell you, Mr. LeMorte, that your actions in this matter are bordering on insubordination. You may have suspicions, you may believe that there is something more to Dr. McDowell's project than she is willing to reveal, but that is none of your concern.

    "Dr. McDowell is the Administrator of the colony on TKR-117, and the director of the archaeological site. What she does there and how she does it does not come under your purview. She answers directly to Ambassador Drankum and no one else.

    "Aegis' science department works there in joint venture at the pleasure of Dr. McDowell. Our main part in this mission is to assist her team, to furnish security, and to ensure that what is there, whatever it is, is not compromised in any way. It is not for you to openly question her motives. If so requested by your superior officer, you may voice your opinion, but you will voice it to your superior in private. Otherwise, your scientific findings are to be reported and that is all. You will not voice suspicions. You will not utter innuendos. You will report the facts and only the facts. That is your duty. Is that understood?"

    "I understand completely Commander," said LeMorte calmly, again without emotion. "Permission to speak freely and off the official record, sir."

    Chirakis stiffened her back, facing him squarely, her tone measured and direct. "Permission denied. You will speak no more of this to anyone. I have your reports and will review them. If there is anything to be done further, I will be responsible. If I hear that you have discussed this matter to anyone I will consider legal action. You are dismissed."

    Standing to attention, Le Morte simply looked at the Commander. "Aye sir," he said and turned and exited the office, secure in the knowledge he had done his duty and nothing more.

  8. The USS Ticonderoga (Defiant Class) has been exploring an asteroid field looking for minerals.

    During the last sim the away team was exploring a planetoid where scans showed dilithium below the surface.

    The twin suns have risen to their apex, heat on the rugged desert surface is nearly unbearable, and the team has followed the dilithium scans to a cool, moist cave.

    At sim begin the away team is about to enter the cave which, in addition to being cool and showing signs of water, is inhabited by every creepy-crawly lifeform on the planetoid.

    • There is water in the cave (hence, the water creature) but is it potable?

    • They have no communication with the Ticonderoga
    • There must be a way out because fresh air continues to pour in
    • Their Captain has been bitten my a cave insect and is unconscious

    Will they find a way out? Will Captain Chirakis live to see another day? Will any of them live to see another day?

  14. The Message

    In the 25 days since her return to Sky Harbor Aegis, Commander Chirakis had never heard that sound. It wasn't particularly invasive or annoying, and it wasn't a security alarm, but it did, for a moment, draw her attention away from the padds that had accumulated on her desk in the past few hours, everything from shipyard reports and defense grid updates to fighter pilot applications. It even drew her attention from Ambassador Joy Two's latest missive concerning the situation on TKR-117.

    The safety of the station and the colony was her first priority as Executive Officer, so, in the light of the radiation leak, locking down the colony and having all traffic to and from curtailed was a given, as was treating all the sick and/or injured – however the medical team had categorized them – in a secure quarantine area. But these were not her decisions to make.

    They were the domain of Ambassador Drankum, and the strain upon him had become more evident as decision upon decision piled upon him, like stones upon a pressboard. His gait, his forceful bearing, and his normally abrasive manner had become less so and his lean against the OPS console had become more pronounced. He had even paid Kirel a compliment, backhanded though it was, and had actually agreed with Ambassador Joy Two.

    The sound came again. A tiny pinging, quite persistent this time. Twenty three fifty nine – an odd hour. Gamma shift. All should be quiet on the station, and neither OPS nor security had answered it? Kirel leaned forward to place the padd on her desk and angle her eyes towards the sound, reminded of its purpose as soon as saw it. It was a convenience alarm that signaled to the Executive Officer, when present, that someone was in the other office. That OPS or Security had not picked it up meant that the access was authorized, but still she felt the need to check.

    "Computer, access security feed to the Ready Room," she said, rising from her chair to approach the large viewscreen on the opposite side of the room, then stopping short when the reply came, "Access denied."

    Access denied, which meant only one thing…. "Locate Ambassador Drankum."

    "Ambassador Drankum of Ferenginar is in his office in the Control Tower."

    At this hour? Has the situation escalated?

    A few seconds later her console bleeped as if in answer to the question. Upon request, the message appeared in all its glory on the viewscreen…

    SKY HARBOR AEGIS

    OFFICE OF THE STATION COMMANDER

    EXECUTIVE ORDER NUMBER 06-01

    DECLARATION OF A STATE OF EMERGENCY

    …and whether the answer to her question was yes or no remained to be seen.
