And I know for a fact there's been Spiderman vs. X-Men/Fantastic Four as well as Superman vs. Batman crossovers. Usually it starts with the respective heros trying to save the day two different ways and getting in each other's hair, then realizing their goals are the same and joining forces for the final battle. One should not be alarmed at the concept ^.^ However, I am a little alarmed by this movie for the simple reason that besides the Stan Lee comic productions, I have a strong distrust of comic book movies.

I think the emphasis on Cobain and Nirvana is because they apparently brought grunge to the national scene. And I think they tried to make Cobain the poster child for "Don't Do Drugs!" and it sorta turned into a "Let's Mourn Another Druggie Rocker Who Died" trend.

I think he means co-ed dorms, no an opposite-sexed roomate.

This was probably part of the reason my dorm experience sucked. Co-ed dorm, all girl floor. Too many hens in the hen house.

Dude, check out Tad Williams' War of the Flowers. It's been on my list for a year and I *just* finished it today, really good fantasy read, and only one volume :D If you're in for a longer read, though, Memory, Sorrow and Thorn is Otherland's predacessor, another excellent, more traditional fanasty trilogy.

Hun, I was surprised when they didn't feature Hobgoblin in Spidey II, be happy they took this delightful little trip in the Spidey Universe before launching back into the plot of the last movie.

And though I myself have never had the pleasure of getting to know the canonical Spider Man, as the daughter of one who was completely obsessed with the Wall Crawler (I have pictures somewhere of my dad in a Spider Man costume and me in my little Bat Mite outfit and booties, or maybe that was the Mr. Fantastic costume...anywho...) I can safely say that the movies are a wonderful fan service. According to my uncle, who saw the first one with my dad, he was practically jumping up and down in his seat going, "Oooh! That came from Issue #124!"

Plus, Stan Lee is the freakin' producer. You gotta know it's not going to be too offensive to die hards when the original creator is making the films.

And now in the spirit of Where's Waldo, a question to those who were paying attention: Where's Stan?! :D

Wait, both shows have had jokes about actor's past shows. On SG-1, they had a joke about McGyver, and on Enterprise, they had a joke about Quantum Leap. So, you can't fully base it just on that, although SG-1 does have more corny jokes.

I'm basing it on the fact that SG-1 does this quite frequently, whereas it appears Enterprise has done this once. Prolly because SG-1 did it :lol:

Corny jokes are what keep me happy as a fan :lol: That and good plots, solid dialog, actors and actresses who are *really* into their roles/the show (Christopher Judge has written/directed a lot of SG-1 stuff), and something new.

While dorms were a tempting prospect, I only live about 10 minuites away from my school by car, and thusly, I saw no reason to move into a dorm. My school bought the building from Howard Johnson, (who built a newer hotel nearby), and thus.. all of the dorm rooms are hotel rooms. I've seen it, and man.. it's so small.. the rent is only $500/month, but I guess I didn't see much logic in moving in.

Dang, dorms are $500 at your school? I'm renting my two bedroom apartment right now for $430, and I still think the dorms are cheaper (not including the meal plans).

Methinks this is the reason why I watch Stargate instead of Enterprise. Because there is some serious FAN SERVICE on that show. They know what their audience likes and has watched before, and they drop little nuggets every once in a while that say, "Hey, we know you like/watched Star Wars/MacGyver/Star Trek/whatever sci-fi show/movie, here's a little something to let you know we care!"

I'm of course referring to the fact that they slip in little nerdy inside jokes, like the episode where they completely ripped off the Death Star scene from A New Hope.

There is always a bottom line, but to give a good quality product you need to make your customers' satisfaction equal to or above that bottom line. That way, your bottom line is met and you make people happy at the same time. Stargate does this. Enterprise does not, from what I've seen.

While I was in the dorms, I hated every minute of it. Then again, I'm a bit of an ani-social dweeb, so that's not overly surprising. I think perhaps if I'd gotten stuck with a less-catty group of people, I would have enjoyed my experience more. Unfortunately, I didn't have much choice in the matter, as most colleges won't let freshmen live off-campus unless it's with their parents or they're too old or some such special dealiebob.

The reasoning for this is that it actually *does* help with studying and such. Only if you enjoy studying in groups, I'm afraid ^.^

There would definitely have to be female cadets walking along the beach in thongs with commbadge decals on their string bikinis (::Ducks from retalliation by marris::lol:

Well, I wouldn't go so far as to say my cell phone has replaced my land line, but it has replaced my long distance. Then again, I get my cell phone pretty much for free, as my uncle pays for it unless I go over what the family plan dictates (like last month, damn hour long conversations with Grandma!)

Land line is good for: tape recording interviews for work, ordering pizza, toll-free calls when the battery is low, calling in sick for class ^.^

When I went to Shore Leave for the first time two years ago, I didn't go for the convention. I came to meet you guys face-to-face for the first time. I didn't care that there weren't very many speakers, I didn't care that the dealer room was kinda small, I didn't care that most of the celebrities there were guest-stars and non-Trek folks. The point was...I was getting together with my buddies from SFOL. Same deal last year; I knew from experience that the convention itself would pretty much suck (even though I got to hug Teal'c! ::squee!::,) but I went to boogie down with Issues and the Marines and Lursa.

Frankly, I'm a little bit hurt that somehow Baltimore is no longer worthy in the eyes of STSF because there isn't any gambling or Star Trek Experience rides or whatever makes Vegas so much more fascinating than getting together with folks you know. And yes, you guys do that over there, too, but still...there's something to be said for tradition, simplicity and a distractionless environment. I went, and will still go, for the people, not the entertainment.

Eh...don't mind me. I'm just a rambling romantic ^.^ And I should also note that I'm not going to Baltimore this year either, though for personal reasons, not because it's boring or I don't want to see the people that will be attending. Instead, I will hopefully be going to Vegas for the big convention, just because I want to say I've been to the mother of them all.

Well here is my two cents or so....

 

 

First: The GM's give their time to us pretty selflessly. And give what they can. And thats all we can ask of them.

 

Second: And I am going to be cheesy here, but I think its appropriate (that and I am Journalist and we love to be cheesy...right Marris?) JFK once said "...Ask what not your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country..."

 

Now I am not saying that we should treat STSF like a country ::snickers at the thought:: But I at least, adopt that Its not what STSF can do for me, but what can I do to help make STSF a better place to be...:lol:

This is exactly why I love what these guys are doing, taking it upon themselves to do this. I'm just saying that giving them some recogition for their efforts would go a long way in not only encouraging more of these kinds of sims, but also help ease some confusion and worries by making a clearer distinction :lol:

I'm sorry, I'm not completely understanding where your getting this from. Is this something from the S.C.E. books or Enterprise that I don't know about? 'Cause I don't think I've seen this in the shows.

People, people...it's called innovation and compromise ^_^

Admittedly, I haven't been to any of the offhours sims, but I think this is a great idea. I'm not a fan of "spontaneous" simming, as that leads to disorganization, confusion, and godmoding, but I'm loving this grassroots business here.

Now, apparently there's a bit of confusion on the part of cadets as to whether or not these academies are official or not. Also, folks who want to sim at certain times (Fridays) are having problems finding GMs who can fill the slots, and would like to try this method out. Y'all at the top think (and probably rightfully so) that allowing these folks to run their offhours sims will just add to the confusion.

However...

More sims are a good thing, official or not. More community participation is golden. Perhaps there is a way to work around the two seeming problems?

How about this: if you're worried about the cadets thinking these things are official, let's make them official. Stick 'em in the schedule as Bootcamp, and let the MGs run them how they want. Make it a club, guild, committee, whatever you want to call it. And (shocker!) make attendence count toward graduation. I'm not saying let the MGs graduate them, but if the MGs are seeing people who look like they have the right stuff, let them drop an e-mail or an IM to the GMs to let them know. It would still be unofficial in that the MGs would only be doing what they're doing now and they would clearly be distinguished by the different name (Bootcamp), but be "official" in that the forum is giving some sort of active sanction (meaning Friday nights would be okay) and the MGs can give GMs a heads up for potential recruits.

Edit: Actually, that might be really cool. I don't think an academy or class would work, but perhaps a guild of some sort like they have at FSF or are starting at SFOL? Yanno, just a club of folks who like to design new ships and whatnot?
